All schools are unique. They serve different communities, pursue different missions and operate in different contexts. Yet they share a common purpose: to help children learn. Whatever else schools seek to achieve, their most distinctive responsibility is to help young people learn and expand their future opportunities.

Across education, examples of excellence can be identified and celebrated. Great teachers and exceptional schools exist in every sector. The challenge is not discovering what high-quality learning looks like but ensuring that every child experiences it, every day.

By drawing on evidence and experience, Reliable Excellence explores how schools can meet that challenge.

Insights are provided by Lois Osborne, an experienced principal and former CEO of a multi-academy trust in the United Kingdom. As CEO, she led the growth of the organisation from four to twelve schools, balancing educational quality, workforce sustainability, financial stewardship and organisational performance. Earlier in her career, she worked with Ark Schools, contributing to professional learning and school improvement across one of England’s largest school networks. Throughout, she has worked alongside teachers, leaders and governing boards to improve outcomes and strengthen organisations serving diverse communities.

Children move through school only once, making the quality of the learning they experience one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to schools. Reliable Excellence explores how that responsibility can be fulfilled.
